Two of the world's most notorious luxury yachts, belonging to two of the world's wealthiest men, have collided off the coast of Naples in Italy earlier this week.
A video posted on Instagram by Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego showed a sleek vessel drifting towards his mega yacht, Lady Moura. Even after the crew members blew the horn and shouted to alert the oncoming yacht, according to Salinas, the vessel, Venus—built for Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and presently owned by Laurene Powell Jobs—hit Lady Moura. The blow gave a big scratch to Salinas' vessel but did not result in serious damage or a breach of its hull.
Salinas took the opportunity to invite his followers to purchase Apple products through his retail chain Group Elektra so that he could help Powell Jobs with the repair costs. He was reportedly furious on Instagram, asking why crew members of Venus didn't notice his huge yacht, and said they were "idiots."
Neither of the billionaire owners was aboard their respective yachts, according to Dagens news belonging to the Media Group Denmark.
Venus, valued at $120 million, was designed by Philippe Starck and came complete with copious amounts of glass to give it a shiny, line-flushed finish, similar to an Apple product. Jobs himself never got a chance to step foot on the yacht before his death in 2011. Lady Moura was launched in 1990 and is recognized as a very luxurious vessel, accommodating up to 27 guests and a staff of 72 crew.
This week, Laurene Powell Jobs ranked 126th on the global rich list with an estimated net worth of $14.4 billion from the inheritance of her late husband. She does philanthropy work through her Emerson Collective and Waverley Street Foundation. Ricardo Salinas Pliego was an heir to Grupo Elektra and TV Azteca and placed as the 221st richest person in the world, at an estimated net worth of $10 billion.
